Tulchan Gin

Tulchan Gin is a small-batch London Dry from Speyside, the heart of Scotch whisky country, named for the Tulchan Estate on the banks of the River Spey and launched worldwide by Stoli Group. The recipe is built around the estate's own terroir: sloe berries, elderflower, and blackberry leaves gathered on the property, joined by juniper, angelica, licorice, and white asparagus, an unusual botanical that gives the gin a bitter edge and an unusually long finish. It's distilled in copper pot stills and chill-filtered at 39.2°F to preserve the freshness of each botanical, then bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof), a notch above most London Dry gins, in a heavy embossed blue bottle with the estate tartan down the side and a wooden stopper stamped with a thistle. The producer's notes: juniper and pine with a spicy sweetness on the nose; juniper up front on the palate with sweet citrus behind it and an herbal, earthy mid-palate from the asparagus and blackberry leaves; and a long, dry finish where elderflower florals and juniper linger. The house serve is the Tulchan Tonic with a fresh orange slice, and the extra proof means it won't vanish in a Martini or a Negroni.
